Soothing the Side Effects of Teething

A couple of days ago, Macks woke up from his nap with the front of his outfit completely wet. I knew that I didn’t put him down with anything to drink, baby care, so I was looking for the source of the wetness. As I picked him up and brought him downstairs, I looked at his face and saw that his mouth was the source. Macks has drooled throughout his nap, which soaked both his bed and himself.Macks is usually not a drooler, so when I told him to open his mouth, I could see that his molars were coming in the back. Yep, the big teeth were coming in and it was not only causing him discomfort, but a lot of drool.Knowing that he’s teething, I want to do anything that I can to help the side effects. Here’s what I’m doing to help his teething woes.AdvertisementFor the drool: Drool is a common symptom of teething and it can mean that your little one is soaking through their clothes much faster than you anticipated. When Macks is having a teething episode, I always make sure that he has a bib on him. A terry bib, like this Mickey Mouse one, works the best when your little one is teething because it’s extra absorbent. I always love buying the bibs in multiples, like this Mickey Mouse 3-pack bib set because that allows me to keep one in the car, baby toys, one on baby, and one in my diaper bag. Another item that I always make sure to have extra of is a set of clothes. While the bib can give you an extra layer of protection, sometimes they are drooling so much that they soak through both the bib and their clothes. Packing an extra romper, like this Pinocchio romper makes for an easy quick change and a dry baby! For the discomfort: One of the worst things is seeing your little one in pain and knowing that there is little you can do about it. When Macks is upset from his teeth coming through the first thing I do is grab a washcloth, like these Finding Nemo Washcloths, that we have and wet it and immediately put it in the freezer. While I wait for it to freeze, I grab a teether, like this Mickey Mouse teether, and let him chew on it. When the washcloth is finished freezing, baby nappies, I let him chew on that, too. The different textures help soothe his gums, and putting pressure on them help ease some of the discomfort. The cool sensation also feels nice, and it’s good for him to play with because the different temperature helps his sensory skills.Teething is no fun for Baby or for Mommy, and that’s why I want to do what I can do ease some of the symptoms that accompany it. With these tips, you can help your little one soothe the side effects so you can have more happy and magical moments together.
